Our Hour

Privacy Policy

Short version: your rhythm is shown to the people in your circle and to nobody else. No ads, no trackers, nothing sold. We do count a handful of things about how the app is used, and this page says exactly which.

Last updated 4 November 2026 · applies to Our Hour for iOS, including TestFlight builds

Who we are

Our Hour is made by gain nam, an independent developer in the Republic of Korea. For anything in this policy, write to gain11131113@gmail.com.

What we collect

Your account
An email address, which comes from whichever way you sign in — Apple, Google, or an email and password. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, the relay address is all we ever see. Passwords are stored only as a hash by our hosting provider; they never reach us in readable form.
Your profile
The display name you type and the time zone you pick, so your clock reads correctly for the rest of your circle.
Your rhythm
The weekly blocks you enter — a label such as “Sleep” or “Work”, the days, and the start and end times — plus one-off busy blocks, your flexible sets, and which day you picked for each. This is the app's whole job: without it there is nothing to compare.
Your circle
Which circle you belong to, whether you created it, its invite code, and when you joined.
Photos you take in the app
The photo log is pictures taken with the in-app camera, each with the time it was taken and who took it. There is no gallery import: the app cannot reach the photos already on your phone. Anything you draw on a photo — a doodle, a caption — is stored with it.
Morning calls
A voice recording of up to thirty seconds, which you record for one person in your circle to hear when they wake up. It is kept until you or they delete it.
Pings
That you asked someone whether they are free, and whether they said yes or no. Not why. These are deleted automatically after one day.
When you are busy, if you turn on calendar reading
Off unless you switch it on in Settings. When it is on, the app reads the next three weeks from the calendars already on your phone and stores only the start and end times of events that are marked busy. Never the title, never the location, never who else is invited, never the notes — the field that would hold a title is left empty in the database on purpose. Your circle learns that Tuesday evening is taken. It does not learn what it is taken by. All-day entries are skipped, so a birthday does not blank out a day. The app never writes to your calendar and the permission it asks for is read-only. Switch it off and every block that came from your calendar is deleted.
How the app is used
Four counts, and no more: that the app was opened (once a day at most), that a golden hour began, that the call button was tapped, and which variant of an experiment you were shown. Each is a row with your account, the time, and nothing else — no screen names, no text, no photo, no location, nothing you wrote. They exist so we can tell whether the app is any use to anybody, and a scheduled job deletes them after 120 days.
Technical records
Our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs — IP address, timestamp, which request was made — to keep the service running and to spot abuse. Apple sends us crash reports from TestFlight with no name attached to them.

What we don't collect

  • No location. Your city is one you choose from a list. The app never asks the system for your position.
  • No contacts, and no reading your photo library. The app asks for neither. It does ask for the camera, to take a photo for the log, and the microphone, to record a morning call — both only at the moment you tap to do it, and both refusable without breaking anything else. Saving a collage you exported asks for permission to add to your photo library, which is add-only: it cannot read what is already there. You may notice iOS also lists a photo-library permission for this app — Apple requires that to be declared because the component we use to save a file mentions the wider photo API, and it is declared for that reason alone. The app never calls it, and a collage goes to your camera roll rather than into an album, precisely so that full access is never needed.
  • No third-party analytics, and no tracking. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising identifier, no ad network and no third-party tracker in the app, and nothing you do in it is followed across other apps or websites. The four counts listed above are our own, stay in our own database, and are never joined to anything outside it. Earlier versions of this page said we counted nothing at all; that stopped being true when those four were added, and this is the correction.
  • No health data. The app can suggest when you seem to sleep, and it works that out from which hours you have opened the app, on your phone, in a tally of twenty-four numbers that is never uploaded and holds no dates. It does not read HealthKit, the Android sleep API, your steps, your heart rate or anything else about your body, and it asks for none of those permissions.
  • No selling. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising. There is nobody to sell it to.

Who can see your data

The people in your circle see your display name, your city and time zone, your busy and free blocks — including the labels you typed on them — the photos you put in the log, and any morning call you record for them. That sharing is the point of the app, so treat a label the way you would treat a message to them: don't write anything in it you wouldn't want them to read.

The database enforces this with row-level security: every read is limited to your own rows and to the rows of people who share a circle with you. Someone who is not in your circle cannot reach your rhythm even if they know your account exists.

Besides them, only these companies process your data, and only to make the app work:

  • Supabase — the database, sign-in and hosting. Your data sits on Amazon Web Services in Seoul (ap-northeast-2).
  • Apple — Sign in with Apple, and distributing the app through TestFlight and the App Store.
  • Google — Sign in with Google, and only if you use that button.
  • Anthropic — only if you turn on the AI summary described below, and only the counts listed there.

We will also hand over data if the law genuinely requires it, and we will tell you unless we are forbidden to.

The AI summary, which is off

The monthly recap card is arithmetic: hours free together, how many windows, how many photos, the longest run of days. There is an optional extra line on it, written by a language model, and it is labelled AI summary on the card so that nobody mistakes it for one of the counts.

It is off. Turning it on is a switch in Settings, it starts off for every account, and nothing is sent anywhere until you flip it. When it is on, these go to Anthropic's API and nothing else does: the month and year, minutes free together this month and last, how many windows, how many photos, the longest streak in days, the weekday-and-four-hour bucket that came up most, and whether your circle is just you.

No names, no photos, no block labels, no captions, no city, no account identifier, no email. Anthropic does not train on API traffic. Turning the switch back off stops it, and the card goes back to being numbers — which is what it was designed to be and looks finished as.

Where it is kept, and for how long

In Seoul, Republic of Korea, for as long as your account exists. Anything you delete in the app — a block, a set, a whole rhythm, a photo — is deleted, not hidden. Server logs roll off within days.

Three things go on their own schedule, whatever you do:

  • Pings are deleted a day after they are sent.
  • Usage counts are deleted after 120 days.
  • Calendar blocks cover the next three weeks and are replaced on each sync, so an event you delete on your phone disappears here too.
  • Photos and morning calls are kept until deleted. On the free tier a photo older than 30 days stops being shown to you until you subscribe — it is hidden, not erased, and deleting it deletes it for good.

Deleting your account

Write to gain11131113@gmail.com from the address you signed in with, say you want the account gone, and we delete it within 7 days. That removes your profile, your rhythm, your blocks, your sets, your circle memberships, your photos, your morning calls and your usage counts. We cannot delete what other people wrote, and a circle stays for the people still in it.

You can also delete the account yourself, in Settings, without asking us. Email is there if you would rather, and we will not make you argue about it.

Children

Our Hour is not meant for children under 14. We do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has made an account, write to us and we will delete it.

Security

Everything travels over TLS and is encrypted at rest by our hosting provider. Reads and writes are restricted per account in the database itself, not only in the app. Passwords are hashed. This is a small project, though, not a bank: if you find a hole, please tell us before you tell anyone else.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and you can withdraw consent by deleting your account. If you are in Korea these rights come from PIPA; in the EEA or the UK, from the GDPR. One email is enough — we do not require a form.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and anything that materially affects you is announced in the app before it takes effect. We will not quietly start collecting something new.

  • Google — Google

Our Hour
